The Opera House has been finished for more than 40 years and in that time, to the best of my knowledge, no one has produce a souvenir that does the building justice. Having recently developed a model of the Solomon R. Guggenheim Museum it was suggested to me that I should create a model of the Opera House.
I'd been to Sydney and like most tourists I'd walked around the building but I'd never really given the building the time or thought it deserved. Looking back now I find that strange! I would normally wander aimlessly around in the presence of a great building absorbing it's every detail. Architecture is my weakness, books and photographs are great for reference but there is nothing like actually seeing the details in a building and appreciating the space it creates.

In 1956 the State of New South Wales ran an international competition for a National Opera House at Bennelong Point, Sydney. This attracted more than 220 entries from 32 countries. Jørn Utzon a young Danish architect won the competition and was hailed by the architectural critic Sigfried Giedion as opening a new chapter in contemporary architecture.
Completed in 1973 the Opera House is an architectural masterpiece and was included in the National Heritage List in 2005.
In 2007 the building was inscribed on the World Heritage List: “Sydney Opera House is a great architectural work of the 20th century. It represents multiple strands of creativity, both in architectural form and structural design, a great urban sculpture carefully set in a remarkable waterscape and a world famous iconic building.” UNESCO
Model Scale 1:750 – Approx 295mm x 205mm x 100mm. Weight 1.5kg.
Our model comes beautifully packaged in a sturdy box. The instructions included with the model are easy to follow and consist of stage by stage diagrams. Glue is required but not supplied. The box measures approx 315mm x 220mm x 45mm weighs 1.5kg.
