Tate Modern Model Development 2
The Switch House as it was know during it’s development and construction was built on top of 3 large underground tanks. The internal structure of the Switch House being a cast in situ concrete core while the exterior is made up of a custom brick facade. Working originally at a scale of 1:500, we scaling our model down to 1:750 for production and aesthetic reasons.
We initially developed the spiralling structure with an origami style approach before moving on to a series of horizontal planes that are more representative of the bricks and easier to construct.
